Picking up the Pieces

Izzie's slowly slinking back to abnormal. So much catching up to do and so little motivation
Been particularly peeved with the BS on the work front
It seems that everything all comes at once. The owners announced in early February that she had sold the place but after countless delays with the settlement day, it finally got sorted out on Thursday just gone.
But one unintended side effect is that the new folks have a fortnightly roster cycle that ends on a Sunday and wanted ours to be changed to synchronize with theirs. So the period when this would take place would be two days short. But even though the week now finishes two days earlier, still getting paid on a Wednesday evening. So it's the usual old thing of the folks at the top getting an extra two days to earn interest on our wages and transferring as much cost and risk as possible to those least able to afford it.
But it gets even better. The present manager is one of those sorts of people who always avoids conflict and follows the path of least resistance. So the crybabies end up getting all the milk and the folks who don't make a fuss get forgotten
One of her bad habits is to bend over backwards to be nice to the newbies giving them the hours and shifts they want. She does this by taking the hours off the old regulars. But then they get cranky so she then backs down.
Silly Izzie also follows the path of least resistance and avoids conflict. But that was until last week
After returning from that grand European tour in November 2006 discovers that the 3-10 shifts on Sunday and Monday that the Izzie's had for years and years had been given to some newbie and the Izzie got left with the pissy little 5-9s (and since Sundays get paid 175% this was a big drop in income) Said nothing and it was only when this fellow left that we got those hours back. But then she went and did it again a year later and this particular newbie was a foul mouthed guttersnipe who often turned up to work drunk. But that did not seem to matter to her. Again - other folks who lost shifts to him complained and got theirs back but Izzie still said nothing
But two weeks ago was just one time too many. Did not take too many holiday while our sister was here figuring that since the beginning of the year had been getting 3 7-1 shifts a week leaving plenty of time in the afternoon to do stuff with our ickle little sister and niecie
But then the roster came out and Izzie got dumped with 4 pissy little 5-9 shifts on one roster and two of those on a Wednesday before our two days off. That meant a grand total of 52 hours for the fortnight instead of the usual 60. That was just plain ridiculous. No one can afford to lose 8 hours in a fortnight and certainly not when on minimum wages anyway.
Needless to say, she had already gone home when turning up to do those 3 pissy 5-9 shifts during the weekdays. But did get a morning shift last Monday and asked her then. She was most likely not expecting it
Asked why we had been given 4 4 hour shifts on one roster. She answered that it was not a 'devious scheme' but simply that those were the shifts that were available. In other words - she was giving Izzie the scraps. Replied that having been there for a long time, Izzie should have more entitlement to the longer 6 hour shifts - she looks at the Izzie mumbling as if this is some totally revolutionary concept saying neither yes or no. (especially amusing since the newbie she gave one of the shifts to did not even turn up on one of those mornings)
Then added that we could not afford to lose 8 hours in one fortnight. She said that it was only four but then realises of course that was four per week
She just sort of mumbled that she would look into it.
Heard later from another one of the house elves that the newbie who had gotten Izzie's 4 morning shifts had said that he was unavailable to work evenings as he had a second job elsewhere. So that was just typical - in her pathetic attempts to be nice to the newbies - instead of telling him that she mainly had evenings available, she goes and takes Izzie's morning shift gives it to him and gives Izzie the scraps - basically turning his problem into Izzie's instead of his own.
It's all about putting out fires today without thinking of the long term consequences for tomorrow. Taking shifts from reliable people to give to unproved newbies and then having the nerve to then ring the original person when the new one inevitably does not turn up is not a good way to keep the house elves happy. She's actually lost several good staff with this kind of rubbish but never seems to learn.
She's still an improvement on her predecessor who instead of trying to please as many people as possible, spent her time trying to piss them all off instead and rather enjoyed being the big bad wicked witch
But sometimes being too nice can actually cause more harm than being too nasty because it's basically putting up a green light to the bullies who are always quick to fill a power vacuum. But that's a story for another post.
Only got one shitty little 5-9 on the new roster but still a bit peeved since it's tomorrow and originally had other things planned for that afternoon.
Will be most interesting to see what shit she tosses Izzie on the next roster
So thanks to all this cheap nastiness as well as decadent indulgences while the visitors were here, for the first time ever today got a letter from the electric co telling the Izzie we got five days to pay the outstanding amount of $$120 or else they'll pull the plug.
Did pay on Friday but was a bit miffed about their snarkiness since 80% of the original bill was for their stupid overpriced electricty meter and not the electricity itself.
But that will hopefully be our last bill ever and the next one should be a cheque for 240 kilowatt units. Let's see if they try cheat on that one.
But Izzie is still lucky - it's taken more than 40 years to get one of those nasty letters and was able to scrape together the silver sickles to keep them happy. Izzie's got much lower living expenses than most folks, no kids to worry about or having to find $$300 plus for the rent per week.
Juggling nasty letters from the gas, water, electricity and phone companies is a way of life for more and more folks in Oz these days. And the large increases in the price of petrol and food is just adding fuel to the fire.
