The first day of craziness has begun. In spite of feeling seriously snoozy, did manage to make it to the Witching Hour last night. Figured that the first day of nano only comes around once a year and there's all morning to catch up on sleep.

Did just 30 minutes of squiggling and clocked up 800 words. Tried a few of these during the day. When inspired 800 seems to be the norm for 30 minutes writing. When dawdling and staring at a blank screen or indulging in the bad habit of rereading and tweeking it plummets down to 400-500.

While all that planning seemed to pay off, in some ways it is strange to think that after all the musings and speculations about characters and possible plots over the last few months, now is the time to do or die.
Started with the four index cards for the first chapter and just kept going. Did not need to resort to pottering off to other plot points. But it is early days yet.

Nothing too unusual has happened yet. That is a bit of a problem. You gotta have a body in the first paragraph or the story gets boring. Oh well. Will sort that out in December or just bring on the body bags for the next chapter

But the strangest thing of all, decided that word building will be some years down the line. Got to work on plots and characters first before getting all adventurous. So to reduce the demand on the old green cells of conjuring locations, decided to simply snatch a favorite place and use it as a base with as much detail as possible but with changes suitable to the story.
Imagining the various scenes is almost like being there for real. That will be the case from Friday so it will be interesting to contrast and compare and to see just how accurately the map reflects the territory

Basically lurked around the Lair today. The grand plans for some serious gardening did not get realized. Snoozing in the sunshine at 10 in the morning was a more attractive proposition. Now and again would do a 30 minute squiggling session. Went off to the shops for munchies, to read the papers and get some silver sickles from the vault and discovered that the filthy stinking goblins at work have used the excuse of a certain horse race to pay the house elves a day late. Was last at work on Wednesday 26th and there was no memos or anything about this cheapskate behaviour. Every day they can hang onto our dimes is extra interest in their goblin vaults and it's not like we are on Alan Joyce kind of earnings where a day late would make no difference
But then again, any excuse will do to screw the house elves. That seems to be the whole culture in Oz these days, well at least over the last ten years or so.
Guess it is the obsession with slavishly copying the Americans in the race to the bottom

That is one thing that can be said in favour of squiggling as a leisure time activity. It is very cheap and very low maintenance. A computer is nice but not necessary. A pen and paper are really all that is needed
