Izzie’s been lurking around the Lair after weeks of feasting on fringe freakiness. Will be back slinking about the Spiegeltent tomorrow evening for the big bunga bunga Burlesqueconi party but today it’s time to recharge the batteries and to escape from the city streets infested with lustful lovebirds smooching in every available nook and cranny
It is very mild and pleasant weather for this time of year and a perfect opportunity to do some serious sorting and pruning in the garden.

Had been so pleased to have a big fact crop of nuts in 2010 after waiting ten years for a few handfuls in 2009. Things were looking good for the big macadamia. But then we had the three weeks of hell in February 2011 where it never got below 20 something at nights and always over 35 during the days. The poor thing got well and truly sizzled.
So was most delighted indeed to see lots of new growth and green leaves as a good start to 2012. But then the fire breathing year of the dragon arrived with a vengeance on Monday 23rd January. We had three days of 37 followed by an unheard of three days of 42.

Within days the soft sappy green crinkly leaves were a crisp and crunchy sizzled brown. Looks like the big mac is well and truly on Death Row.
A loquat tree and spider grevillea also succumbed to the hellfire dragon days. Dearest old Vernon Dursley nuked some very healthy grevilleas and wattles so between serpent neglect and willful malice, the Lair was looking most dreary indeed. Only the dragonfruit, cacti and a handful of wattles are thriving

The big kilo bag of sunflower seeds and assorted herbs and vegie seeds all bought to be planted for the Dragon new moon are still sitting in their boxes waiting to see the light of day
At this rate they won’t be in the ground until the February new moon. With a bit of luck the worst of summer will be over by then. The days are becoming noticeably shorter now so that takes some of the edge off the summer sizzle.

Used up the last of the blood and bone, bentonite clay and rock dust to make a happy home for a baby mango, guava and avocado so needing to find more ingenious solutions for turning dry dusty grey sand into juicy water holding decent soil. Used to be a big fan of lupin mulch and bales of straw but they are all so expensive now for folks living in the city. It’s one time when it sucks not having wheels to get the best deals.

But the dramas in the garden are nothing compared to what is going on with the goblins. The old toad is doing her damnedest to piss everyone off. It will be sooner rather than later that the shit hits the fan. Still trying to work out if her motivation is malice or just plain old fashioned stupidity. Only idiots piss off the geese that lay the golden eggs
Memories of another boss from another time and the other side of the planet appear more frequently. There’s a t shirt slogan here in Oz - “Instant arsehole - just add alcohol” But Izzie thinks that a bit of power is an even more effective ingredient
Izzie knew things were getting bad when we had to upgrade from the little pocket diary with a week to a page to an A5 student diary which has got that much more space per day for all the goblin gossip and snippets.

It should serve as useful source material for plotting revenge or another nasty nano novel.
