Izzie has been a busy serpent celebrating all sorts of anniversaries. Too much excitement and adventure for such an introverted creature. Slinked upstairs and resisted the temptation to curl up in the serpent sack for some serious snoozing

Gotten rather into the routine now of saving Mondays to Wednesdays for just an itsie bitsie coffee crawl after work and all on the two hour time limit imposed by the bus ticket.
That means returning to the Lair some time between 3 and 4 in the afternoon with the return journey strategically planned to avoid the hordes of squealing schoolies
Rainy days are for snoozing and glorious sunny ones for pottering in the garden, planting, planning and general wishful thinking about all the wonderful things to be grown some time but never in the immediate future

Thursdays and Fridays being the Izzie equivalent of the weekend are usually devoted to going to the city, museums or art galleries or meandering aimlessly around the older suburbs in search of the perfect nano cafe. There has also been the odd evening discussion group or other social gatherings of like minded weird creatures.

One enormous advantage of the day job in spite of the Izzie’s endless carping and snarking is having those three afternoons after finishing work at 1pm and the off peak weekend out of sync with the muggle majority. This very convenient schedule and not needing a car to get to work is worth a ridiculous number of brownie points and is one of the biggest incentives to stay (aside from the advantage of being one of the oldest biggest fish in the little pond)

There’s no big fat queues in the post office or bank or especially at special exhibitions at the art gallery or museum on Thursdays and Fridays. There’s hardly room to swing a cat on the weekend
And as for the shops, was caught several time in the city around 4-5pm on a weekend while on holidays. Actually was en route to some place else rather than specifically visiting the city. The crowds and the mayhem are just a complete nightmare. No idea how on earth Monday to Friday nine to fivers ever manage to get anything done

Did pay a visit to the spooky old lunatic asylum that is now an arts centre. Had to slink into the courtyard cafe as the lawn areas were invaded by yummy mummies and their squealing wee beasties. They were all sitting on the ground as the tables and benches under the plane trees are no longer there. Apart from squiggling and musing on the grand plans for this month some of which are falling into place much faster than ever imagined, it was also an opportunity to continue reading a certain very addictive book. Had intended to start from scratch and begin with chapter one but then decided that reading that little free chapter booklet the first time round in the old bakery cafe on 8th Avenue followed by the Martyrs’ church on the hill in Maylands were the two locations that would always be associated with the beginnings of a brand new big book adventure and they proved most worthy and appropriate indeed

Just as well we know what happens next having seen the movie twice. Otherwise would probably end up like one of the poor unfortunate wizards that Ron Weasley mentioned who picked up a book that had magic powers of being so unputdownable that you had to do everything with one hand as the other was needed for holding the book all the time.

The inner chess player keeps wondering how you could ever co-operate or form alliances with some one who you know will have a knife in your back at the first opportunity. Sounds a bit like the day job actually.

Will be slinking off back to the old bakery tomorrow but will first need to do a bit of planting and take a peek inside that very big bag of piggy goodness. Wonders if vegies grown using pig manure as compost could be ever considered kosher
