Goblin Gossip

Wednesday 8th May marked the fifth anniversary of the goblin invasion of a certain mad house. The serpent was not there to celebrate and it is likely that no one still there either knows or cares. Had intended to give it a minor mention on the day itself but in the end had lots of online course stuff to do. So it’s likely a good sign that it has gradually been relegated to ancient history where it belongs
But the Megatherion goblins in spite of all the serpent snark devoted to them in recent years look like veritable saints and angels in comparison to their friends in Bangladesh.
In spite of the incredibly large number of dead and injured, this story only lasted a few days on most of the main stream media here. Bangladesh might be far away and over there but there is definitely a day to day connection to here. Those women were making stuff for a whole bunch of big name labels that can be bought in any big box shopping centre or main street mall here
Uncle Vernon was following this sad tale too and read in the papers that the dodgy building housed not just hordes of garment factory workers but retail stores and banks too. Yes. Goblins. They are everywhere
Apparently a lot of people picked up on the dodgy state of the buildings and were complaining that they were unsafe when some large cracks appeared in the walls the previous day. The store owners and banks were sufficiently concerned not to expect their staff to turn up the next day. Not so the Cotton goblins and rag trade gurus
Not only did they insist their workers turn up next day but threatened them with being docked a month’s pay for not doing so. And the rest of course is history
There’s apparently a bunch of activists in Bangladesh itself who go to the scene of these workplace accidents gathering evidence - they are particularly on the look out for the labels sewn on the clothes. This is the so called smoking gun. While the big box chains are delighted to get the cheap labour they don’t want the downside of these disasters and they seem to be happening more and more often. But it’s a bit hard to deny sourcing stuff from the scene of the crime when your labels and logos have been found on the clothes there

And surprise surprise. The government and their goblin minions don’t like this one little bit. They are so desperate in their groveling for overseas business that they make life hell for concerned citizens who want nothing more than the right to make a decent living without being expected to risk life and limb on a daily basis. And for this they are regarded as "enemies of the nation"
These days the government cannot completely silence such people and they are using the Internet to get the word out there about the serious shit that is happening on the street
There were street protests for the factory fire in November. The workers were locked in the factory when it caught fire. It seems the owners got a slap on the wrist with a wet lentil and just went and set up more filthy phoenix companies
There’s been more protests about this totally disgraceful state of affairs along with stuff concerning the civil war back in the 1970s.
So was ever so disgusted to turn on the radio this morning to hear that they think more than a thousand people died when that tower fell. But the government and police are too busy beating up protesters on the streets and discussing bringing in blasphemy laws that would make blogging bad things about their beloved prophet an offense punishable by death. No one who was interviewed on the radio story would give their name because they were afraid of being on the receiving end of government attention
If they are so insisting on slavishly aping Pakistan, not sure what the point was of having a civil war in the first place.
It’s true that when you live in a graveyard you cannot weep for everyone but now and again some stories come along that really make you wonder about the little things behind the scenes. The little things that make a big difference
Who rings in sick or turns up late that day and who has just started their new job at the factory that week. Who decides to let everyone go home because things are looking a little shaky and as far back as which petty clerk or government official gave their mates some building contract and just rubber stamped all the safety paperwork
And on the other side of the world, what made a certain slime ball leave his house one fine day without making sure that his minions were all locked away in their downstairs dungeons? How many other times people walked past hearing strange noises but never suspected a thing? This house that looks like it could have come straight off the set of Amityville did not look like the sort of place where you could hide much from the neighbours. It was not exactly an Addams Family manor on some secluded remote moors location
But then again even worse things happened over a decade ago in a fibro house in nondescript street in an outer suburb of Dursleyville. One girl did escape the house of horrors when the owners were out and ran down the street naked looking for help. She saved her own life and God knows how many more.
