Waves of wickedness
31/12/2004 12:38 amIzzie wants to have a little rant about the revolting assortment of trolls to be found over at the Yahoo boards
Izzie does not know anyone personally who was affected. She does know some one from the Maldives whose family has turned out to be safe and well and there is one girl at work who only just came back from a holiday in Phuket two weeks ago. But there was a very sad story in the paper here about a local woman who is originally from a fishing village near Sumatra. She lives here with her husband and children but her village of origin among others has totally disappeared without any trace. Fifty of her relatives including her parents and brothers and sisters and their children are missing without trace.
When you live in a graveyard, you cannot weep for everyone but that does not mean that you go pissing on the headstones either. Iz hopes that most of these creatures on the Yahoo boards are a sad and pathetic bunch of trolls who say nasty things to generate a bit of excitement in their otherwise insignificant existence but is afraid that some of these people are really serious. Blaming God or George Bush for such a disaster is really clutching at straws in an attempt to find meaning in a random event. But saying that this is punishment from God for the infidel Muslims - well. And that is just the tip of the iceberg too. It gets even meaner and much nastier.
Iz cannot help but think of the children who survive who because of the crazy way that nature has programmed the human species, will blame themselves for their parents deaths or vice versa. I guess it's the same sort of magical thinking and need to have control that makes folks come up with those very nasty hairbrained conspiracy theories in the desperate need to cling on to their beliefs that it really is a just world out there.
( And this is one of the nicer posts )
