Izzie wants to have a little rant about the revolting assortment of trolls to be found over at the Yahoo boards

Izzie does not know anyone personally who was affected. She does know some one from the Maldives whose family has turned out to be safe and well and there is one girl at work who only just came back from a holiday in Phuket two weeks ago. But there was a very sad story in the paper here about a local woman who is originally from a fishing village near Sumatra. She lives here with her husband and children but her village of origin among others has totally disappeared without any trace. Fifty of her relatives including her parents and brothers and sisters and their children are missing without trace.

When you live in a graveyard, you cannot weep for everyone but that does not mean that you go pissing on the headstones either. Iz hopes that most of these creatures on the Yahoo boards are a sad and pathetic bunch of trolls who say nasty things to generate a bit of excitement in their otherwise insignificant existence but is afraid that some of these people are really serious. Blaming God or George Bush for such a disaster is really clutching at straws in an attempt to find meaning in a random event. But saying that this is punishment from God for the infidel Muslims - well. And that is just the tip of the iceberg too. It gets even meaner and much nastier.
Iz cannot help but think of the children who survive who because of the crazy way that nature has programmed the human species, will blame themselves for their parents deaths or vice versa. I guess it's the same sort of magical thinking and need to have control that makes folks come up with those very nasty hairbrained conspiracy theories in the desperate need to cling on to their beliefs that it really is a just world out there.
And this is one of the nicer posts )

Things are looking up. It was a crisp and crunchy morning and the Iz woke up feeling chirpy and cheery - not a common occurance lately - especially after the recent sauna solstice.

Iz has the sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with tossing the traces of vile Vernon into online LJ exile. He can take up all the space he likes there instead of lurking between the Izzie ears as a most vile venomous hissing voice of misery and hatred.

So - it is now nearly midday. The Iz went and picked up her mystery parcel from the local post office and headed back to the Lair in time to hear the very very last episode of Anna Funder's amazing and uber-scary "Stasiland"
Oh - the memories.

After that, was time to water the weeds and pile up the parmesan, sundried tomatoes and basil on the panini rolls that the Iz is having for lunch. Next stop is the 555 bus which will bring Iz to her favorite haunt of St Brutus. But before there we will stop in the bookshop having the 20% off all books sale and hope they still have their copy of "The Magic Shield - A manual for defence against the Dark Arts"
Will have a panini picnic at St Brutus under the plane trees and plot evil schemes for 2005. It's the favorite Izzie place for squiggling in the evil green spiral diary - reviewing the year and musing and mumbling and possibly being once again visited by the Guardians of the Green Light. Izzie has had some inspiration since about what happened since the last time back in January 2002.
After that, it's off to Cottesloe Beach for the final sunset of the year and the one absolutely and utterly essential ritual of finally saying farewell to this year of goodbyes and death and destruction, both inside and outside of the Izzie circle of friends and fairy godmothers.
Vernon will need to be put in his box - like we did with Petunia way back in Jan 2002 and it will be time to call upon the now dormant Izzie spirit helpers - a certain bird and serpent.
Yesss. Iz looks forward to the departure of this year and already is feeling hopeful about some new beginnings.

So a safe and happy new year to those who still remain on this earth after the last eventful and traumatic week.
