Serpent meanderings
06/01/2006 10:22 amIzzie has spent the day pottering around Fremantle again. This time, unlike Monday, was a crisp and crunchy gorgeous day. A lot hotter than Monday but infinitely more pleasant
Was going to save the trip for today but nasty stinking thunderstorms are predicted so the Iz will not waste precious bus fares going to nice places on horrible days but will use the opportunity to finally get to see “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” Now that the Izzie is getting so many afternoon shifts, is a bit more difficult to go to the movies – also due to the fact that we do not like wasting gorgeous sunny days inside and we've had just so so many of those lately. The coolest December in 50 years or so apparently. Will have a few more of those thank you very much.
Still hoping to see Corpse Bride and “Good Night and Good Luck” but will have to be quick before they are gone to make way for more mainstream stuff. Looks like will not manage to see Goblet for a second time but will end up waiting for the DVD.
So, Monday was the day that Izzie finally laid her old green and grey backpack to rest. Was getting a bit tatty and had a big hole in the corner and was only a matter of time before one of the handles would finally freay beyond endurance. Resurrected the nice green and black one we bought back in 2004 and managed to get a black eye the very first time taking it off. Had better luck this time but had no idea how impractical and uncomfortable only one shoulder strap is compared to the conventional two. Stupid damn thing – half the time we just hold it by the handle which will do wonders for its lifespan simply because it is too uncomfortable to wear. Squeezes the poor Izzie titties to bits and makes us feel like we are choking. Will be going back in its box the minute we get ourselves a replacement – one made of chainmail and kevlar. Pity – because the bag bit itself has lots of wonderful nooks and crannies, pockets and things for a pack rat such as the Izzie.
Our last ritual to finish the day on Monday was to gobble the remnants of a certain bottle of evil green wormwood potion. Will now need to peruse a certain book of most Potente Potions to find an acceptable substitute or DIY recipe. But from what we have seen so far, the simplest of all seems to be just grabbing a bottle of normal wimp strength Pernod and adding a handful or two of the evil silvery green leaves. Was most amused to hear that the Serpent in the book of Revelations apparently leaves a trail of wormwood in its path. Most intriguing indeed. Well – this is so according to the writer of the most interesting sounding “Wormwood Forest” a book about Chernobyl since the nuclear accident. Amazing to think it's almost 20 years ago now.
Been some truly amazing stuff on the radio lately – most of it repeats but well worth listening to again. Pity that Late Night Live gives only the date and no indication of the content in its MP3 downloads. The Iz will have to potter around with the mouse to mark out this Monday's offering which was truly fascinating and downright disturbing (P Sainath about farmer suicides in India)
