Petunia and the Moon
09/09/2006 11:50 pmAfter a reasonably nice day on Wednesday - even work wasn't too bad, the Iz had grand plans for Thursday. Being full moon - would have our little moonrise picnic with mooncakes, wafers and cheese and the usual bottle of red - two picnics in fact - one around lunch time in the gardens of our favorite lunatic asylum and the other around actual moonrise time.
Preciousss would stay at the Lair since there was other things to be done during daylight hours. At 2pm we would leave those gorgeous gardens and drop into the Potions Mistress's new place enroute to happy hour at Juicy Beetroot from 3-4pm.
But that was all before the weather forecast which was nothing but rain and clouds for the next 3 days. And also before a phone call at 9.30am just after the Izzie got up.
Turns out to be Petunia. We asks what the hell she must be up to since it must be around 2am over in London. Oh - been up all night drinking she says. Was talking about all sorts of thing - Uncle Vernon, the Izzie sister and her frog princess and various bits and pieces. Petunia then says - well when are you coming over to see us? Iz replies that we won't be going anywhere until 20th September. At that stage - was starting to get a bit suspicious. Well - you can come over tonight if you like - she says. The sneaking little creature is back in Privet Drive - arrived around 2am Tuesday morning and never even told the Izzie at all. Was so hoping it would be a Thursday or Friday so that we could go to the airport but she'd already been there and done that.
Well. That changed things somewhat. Since by this stage it was clear it was going to be doomy, gloomy and cloudy all day, the Iz figures that we will bring the Preciousss after all but for using at Petunia's place rather than the usual Angel's Waffle Cafe. But this time - would be bringing its sleeping bag with all the accessories - most important being the plug for the mains. Usually we just toss the critter in our bag with the mouse and rely on the battery. Is much less hassle that way - carrying stuff in a backpack is less of an effort than in a proper bag.
Left the Lair later than usual - 11.30 instead of 10.30 Since Petunia was on the phone until about 10.15 - was just not in the mood for rushing about - certainly not on our day off. No need to invite an attack of the grumps and being tired, rushed or hungry is a guaranteed way to get one
So, pottered about in the courtyard, wrote a few squiggles or two and then departed around 2pm to drop by the Potions Mistress's place. She's now moved in completely and closed the old shop (fond memories of that place - was the scene of the crime where the Preciousss had the hissy fit of the century)
She invited the Iz to share champers with them to celebrate but first had to go down to the shops to get some nibblies. Accepted the offer but when 4pm had come and gone - decided that this is a bit ridiculous - already missed our munchies at Juicy B and time is too precious to just lurk about waiting. Really should have left our visit until closing time at St Brutus at 5pm
Figures - well never mind - will be back again tomorrow - Friday is market day and the Iz is so so suffering withdrawal symptoms due to our lack of the usual fix of basil - as either straight leaves or pounded with pine nuts into yummie scrummie evil green pesto
Well. Turned out we never did go back to Fremantle the next day - in fact - did not leave Petunia's place until 4.30pm or so. So the vexed question of whether to go to Fremantle, the cheese week at Herdsman Fresh (neary the froggie lakes with all the birds and tiger snakes) or just plain downtown Dursleyville go resolved by doing none of these things.
But since it was a rather rainy grey day, was no great loss and besides - our ulterior motive for bringing the Preciousss made the day most useful indeed - aside of course from catching up on all the gossip from overseas and seeing all the prettie piccies the ma brought back
Yesss - it took only 40 minutes or so and the deed was done. The Preciousss is once again an aMSN friendly zone and Safari is no longer missing in action.
It is so so nice to see all those familiar online faces again and to finally say goodbye to ubersucky MSN messenger.
So certainly for Izzie - every cloud has its silver lining.
