izmeina: Strange Spiral Clock (Time Turner)

The last time I darkened the door of the room with the Big Mac was more than four weeks ago. It did not take too long to remember exactly why,

I used to leave it in sleep mode but have taken to turning the infernal thing off lately since I so rarely go near it. So I was not amused to be confronted by a spinning beachball when I had nothing open but 2 web browsers. I restored Chrome but in spite of having only 7 tabs, the spinning beachball from hell was back in action. It took ages to be able to force quit only to get a bright shiny new Chrome icon that bounced up and down but would not open. Firefox with no restored tabs was not much better.

It takes ages to load anything and by the time the DW post page turned up, I was just about ready to call it quits. But I said, it would be crazy to go to all that effort with nothing at all to show for it.
So I decided I would lurk until 8pm before hitting the hay. Because if I had not already been tired before dealing with this infernal beast, I am absolutely exhausted now.

Unfortunately, I cannot log out for another 4 weeks because I have the pesky job mob to deal with which is the only reason I am here now in the first place.

There has been lots of things happening in Dursleyville. The zoo is open until 7.30pm for the duration of the school holidays. I normally wouldn't be caught dead near the place because of my allergy to kids but most of them have gone home by 5pm and the zoo really is very different at dusk. The birds and frogs start partying and an assortment of interesting weeds unleash their bewitching fragrance after dark.
There have also been 2 baby giraffes born in the last 4 weeks.

So I have been to the zoo 4 times last week and intend to go at least 3 times this week. That's where the annual zoo pass comes in handy. No need to DO the zoo. I just turn up for between 2 and 3 hours and lurk in one section.

Then there was Night at the Museum on Friday 24th September. Since it wasn't well promoted, I ended up having the whole top floor to myself where lots of interesting stuffed critters and corals lurk.

There has been lots of dramas with the plumbers who finally turned up to start the job six whole weeks after I paid the deposit.
The drains and tiling are now done and the only things left are a paint job, installing the shower screen and the shower itself.

It turns out that the hospital is also on Plumber Time. That letter saying that as a Priority 1 patient, i would have my operation within 30 days was just an empty promise. That 30 days expired on Friday 3rd September and any time I ring them, they just keep saying 'next month'

But the drama that just appeared out of nowhere and is totally doing my head in, the manager at one of the charity shops where I work has gone totally down the CovidCon anti vax rabbit hole.

All she now talks about - not talks but hisses and snarls - is the Global Elites, Communist Cabals, The New World Order, Illuminati etc etc.
Covid is a hoax, the vaccines are the work of the devil, the government is going to make cash illegal and all the parliaments of Australia both state and federal are all corporations. She waves some A4 sheets of paper around with the various ABN numbers as proof.
I said that every business entity requires such a number to deal with customers, suppliers etc for tax purposes. Now if you see the Parliament listed on the Stock Exchange, it's then I might be convinced.

But most amazing of all, this woman who used to loathe and despise trump is now spouting the "Stop the Steal" mantra saying that there is footage showing votes being switched in the 2020 election.
I replied that trump had his Stop the Steal appeals thrown out by not 1 but 60 courts.
Of course - the courts have all been BOUGHT and are under the thumb of the Evil Globalist Elite. It's like conversing with a clueless unicorn but in real life. At least on Twitter, you can always ignore the idiots.

As well as preaching at work, she has taken to sending me emails with the latest doings of the Communist Cabal who also happen to be filthy rich squillionaires pulling the strings behind the scenes. This was then followed by a barrage of text messages. She was angry because I did not reply to her email. Turns out she is sending this stuff to everyone on her contact list.

Soon she will be scaring the customers away too with her Infowars waffle.

At the rate she is going, I'm going to have to make an Illuminati 666 buzzword bingo card.

Pity the woman is the manager so she can't be removed from her position. I assume the charity shop she works for would not approve of her nonsense but maybe you could get someone from the management of the charity (she doesn't know) to lurk and maybe listen into her tirades and she can be called in for some counselling. But then that would only prove her paranoid fantasies. I think the anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories are the mental equivalent of covid and just as nasty a disease but this time not just afflicting the anti-vaxxer but spreading the nonsense far and wide and annoying every sane person around them. It seems to have afflicted some of the older people here badly but I thought that the adopting of the anti-vaxxer nonsense was a way of coping in their lock-down isolation. Giving them something to vent their rage on, regardless of whether it was real or not. In older age groups this is surprising considering most of them have been receiving vaccines all their lives and know that they have a real purpose in controlling disease. For heavens sake most probably get an annual flu shot and they happily get vaccinated if they are going overseas to a country that has a some nasty diseases you wouldn't want to catch. I'm hoping that with the lifting of lockdown and life gets back to normal the anti-vaxxer theories will melt away.

Maybe it is not your old computer that is the problem. There was a change in the internet from October 1 which would theoretically block old iphones and I assume Macs as well as older android and Microsoft operating systems from accessing the internet. I only found out about it from a brief news segment on Channel 7 two days before hand and had to check the age of my operating systems on my PC and laptop and the smart phone that I finally had to have in order to remain legal in lockdown city. They were all up to date enough to pass muster. Here is a website which explains it - https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/388125

As you have had very few covid cases in Perth why is the hospital waiting list so long? It's understandable here where all surgeries that were not required to save your life has been suspended for months even in the private hospitals so there was sufficient capacity to treat all covid patients. There was already a backlog from last year's lockdown. Good thing you have that zoo pass to enable you to enjoy some time with the critters. Our zoo re-opens next Monday,

"Nothing open but 2 web browsers"? In fact, my old home Linux PC also doesn't approve of such kind of luxury, and slows to a crawl if I try to open 2 browsers simultaneously. And I've been suffering with FF and Chrome equally (7 tabs is even very generous), but since I've recently switched to Microsoft Edge (lately it's available for Linux, and I suppose for Macs too), I'm much happier! Edge is running smoothly, faster than FF, doesn't get stuck, looks good, and has some additional bells & whistles. Embarrassing, I know... But there's no good and evil, etc etc ;)

Visiting the zoo in the evening sounds very intriguing. Inspires all kinds of creepy imagery, like all these horror "night in a museum" movies.

LOL at the paranoid colleague, must be amusing if it weren't so sad... Luckily, I don't interact personally with antivaxxers, but I know there are plenty around here, though usually it goes together with religion. I think it's easier to believe in 666 impossible things simultaneously than in one, if you have the right mindset.

Ah, true, "Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis.". But not to worry, Edge is nothing like IE - it was rebuilt from scratch, using the public domain Chrome rendering engine. It's amazing how they managed to create a Chrome-based browser which is much better than the actual Chrome. But Microsoft was always good with assimilating, embracing and extending. I've heard that their Win 11 Linux subsystem offers a decent Linux experience... :)

Hey, looks like you've got a great character for the upcoming Nano... :P
