Hubble bubble, toil and trouble

Once again this serpent has been lying low and lurking mainly offline.
It has been the weirdest week.
I woke up around 4am on Monday morning feeling horribly hot and clammy and slightly delirious.
Serves me right for asking my sister for more information when she told me she's been getting a lot of hot flushes lately.
But since that wasn't an option in my situation, my mind turned to the spinach quiche I had for lunch on Sunday at a local cafe.
It had never even occurred to me that they might make them using bags of Riviera spinach with added Datura for extra bite.
So it was a relief when the sniffles got added to the rest of my symptoms.
I basically felt like I had a hangover from drinking a whole bottle of red even when I hadn't had a glass since Saturday evening.
I soldiered on and went to work on Monday hoping that I'd snap out of it.
But it was very unusual of me not to go to a cafe to read the papers either before or after work on Monday.
I just went straight back to the Lair, showered and scrubbed my clammy serpent scales before hitting the serpent sack at the ungodly hour of 3pm.
Next day I chose instead to ring in sick. It was a different job than the one I go to on Monday.
It was they who suggested I should do a RAT test just in case.
I have about 20 of them lying around the house. Freebies from the opening of the airport line back in October.
It had never even occurred to me but since I was planning to go to a workplace Christmas party on Wednesday and was also invited to lunch on Thursday with some of Petunia's old neighbours in their 70s, I figure that I really need to rule out this remote possibility.
I was so brain dead that it was quite the struggle to follow the instructions.
Trying not to have a sneezing fit while poking my brains out was quite the achievement.
So I did score the dreaded double lines. Aside from cancelling all my previous commitments, I've been lurking alone at the Lair since and doing not much more than snooze, watering the weeds, maintaining my Duolingo streak and listening to podcasts or Radio National. Reading is just a bit too ambitious. Still far too brain dead for that.
I've also got no appetite for anything but water. I'm drinking the stuff like a fish.
Catching COVID was most definitely NOT on my 2022 Bingo card.
But I must admit, it's a lot less scary now than it would have been this time last year.
I just hope I can shake it off before the grand graveyard picnic I have planned for Sunday.

Date: 2022-12-26 10:13 am (UTC)I hope you had a peaceful and dry Christmas.
You were very lucky to dodge the bugs in those conditions. Just the thought of being stuck on a plane fills me with dread at the best of times.
I'm still alive but haven't dared to scramble my brains yet with another RAT stick.
Yesterday was my first time sticking my nose outside the door. I went to the Graveyard to have my long awaited picnic with Petunia.
It was a gorgeous mild day. Such a pleasant change from the last few years of 40+ Christmas Days.
I masked up for the bus which had only 3 passengers most of the trip and the Graveyard was almost deserted too.
But I have noticed that this adventure knocked the stuffing out of me. Also aside from a whole litre bottle of water, I could only manage about 100ml of red wine. It no longer tastes the same and seems to give me a hangover even after only a small amount.
I was supposed to write and send all my local Christmas cards on Monday. That most definitely did not happen. Assuming the $2.60 overseas special stamps are still on sale, I may try send off a few cards before the end of the month since the price is back up to $3.70
