izmeina: Strange Spiral Clock (Time Turner)

Izzie likes to say that the map is not the territory. No truer words could be said about what was supposed to be a lazy serpent vacation

The only reason for taking the time off was to avoid the evil aryan Cheshire Rat boss at work. She'd be leaving some time before May. That's when the bun in her oven would be well and truly baked
February is too hot for holidays and anyway did not want to be gone while the gorgeous house elf Li was still there. He left at the end of February.
Was going to take a day off anyway for the medieval festival on Saturday 20th and taking hols around that would also mean having gorgeous weather and being able to do the equinox sunset on the beach thing

So got the holidays approved back in January and was all looking forward to them. And then in mid February, the Rat announces she's leaving earlier than planned - 5th March to be precise. And there's Izzie starting holidays on Monday 8th
Almost felt like canceling them as they are too precious to be wasted without some very important purpose but by then was not only psyched up for a few weeks off but actually needed them
The place had become more and more like a toxic waste dump and just thinking about it was exhausting

So the grand plan would be to get out the little black diary and fill in all the various to do lists - places to go, creatures to see, books to be read and novels to be edited
Long service leave is far too valuable to just idly flitter it away

So what happened the first week? Was not only utterly exhausted and brain dead and getting out of bed at 1pm the very first day (normally would have started work at 7am) but neurotic, cranky and in a murderous mood for most of the week. Was totally neurotic and unable to be in the present moment. And then we got stuck with two days of 40 and 41 degree heat. Not much doing with them

Spent half the time in the Lair not even going anywhere. No interest and no energy - it was so hot and all that. There was plenty of books to read and things to tidy up and a whole lot of decluttering to be done but all Izzie did was snooze

Wednesday 17th began the return to sanity. Felt very creative and had a very good day until the stupid plan of going to Petunia's place for a St Patrick's Day piss up. She's off the booze for Lent but Paddy's Day doesn't count.
But got there and found a note saying some neighbours had invited them over. They did not return until just before midnight. What a waste. Could have been back at the Lair squiggling in Cyberia

Their place is sort of like a black hole - almost impossible to get away any time before 1pm so that mean the end to the original plan to visit the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition at Cottesloe Beach. Went there Friday instead

Saturday was the big day - the medieval fair that had not been held since 2007 for various nefarious reasons. Was so so looking forward to dressing up and slinking about there all day and not needing to leave early in order to be in time for work
So just when Izzie's going to have a bit of fun, the inner saboteur organizes a little accident. Twisted an ankle in the park on the way there. So spent most of the time sitting on park benches watching as it was so painful to hobble around visiting all the stalls
This also meant the end of all those plans to visit the beach for a sunset picnic on Sunday or to see the last day of the sculpture show

Didn't leave the Lair either Monday or Tuesday that week and Wednesday ventured out to the doctors to try get a sick note and to then explain at work that we couldn't
That was the day that Izzie got to meet the new boss. Explained the business with the ankle and how was having trouble getting a doctors' appointment - the mob next door had nothing available until Tuesday 30th. She said that in many places if you get sick while on holidays it is possible to get your leave given back and your sick days used instead. But as she was only new she did not know what this particular company's policy was. She also added that as sick notes cannot be back dated, it might not be worth paying the doctor's fees if Tuesday was the earliest we could get in. She added that physiotherapists are now also authorized to write sick certificates

Izzie was impressed. Not just that she was sensible and well informed about stuff and that she had no problem admitting that when she didn't know something. Her predecessor who really WAS dumb and clueless would never ever admit to not knowing something and would just cover her arse instead
But the main thing was this amazing aura - a bit hard to explain - of some one with real power and authority with no need to play petty games but also a decent person. An oak tree rather than a weaselly squirming petty little rat

That was the day that the Izzie holidays really began. The old peg was good that day and Thursday. Didn't bother finding a doctor in the end - Thursday and Friday being our days off anyway and being back at work on Saturday
But the little critter had gotten fatter and redder. Did the shift with a bit of a hobble. It was amazing. Could feel the change in the atmosphere of the place and it did not escape the serpent's notice that the tap which had been broken since the middle of November had not only been finally fixed but replaced with a better model without all the stupid electronic sensor shit
She had apparently got the tap fixed the first week she was there after that other indifferent and incompetent rat had left if for a good four months and simply didn't give a shit

In spite of the old leg still being swollen and sore, had a very good evening at work and was looking forward to working with the same crew the following evening.
But it took 30 mins to walk to the ma's place which normally takes 15 and the old foot had gotten bigger and badder.
They'd seen it and said that Izzie was seriously stupid to have worked that day. In the end, rang in sick for Sunday and Monday and got another doctor on Monday who wrote a sick certificate for Tuesday and Wednesday as well

So will be back to work on Saturday if all goes to plan. But it is quite spooky that the last 11 days with the hassles and limits of a dodgy foot was infinitely more enjoyable than the two weeks that preceded it

Could not help but think that it was seeing the new boss for real that was the turning point. It was like the evil rat possessing the Izzie for the past few months had finally departed.
In fact, the effect was so strong that it masked the fact that the bad ankle was still sprained and inflamed.
A crazy rat infested toxic soul and two perfect pins was an infinitely more painful state than a dodgy leg and a happy rat free head

The new woman is uncannily like the one we had five years ago. Here's hoping she does not get bullied out too. The sense of deja vu is scary. But the 3 creatures who caused Teresa's demise are no longer there. So there is hope this time
Now all we need is for the evil Macquairie goblins to keep their paws off

So here's hoping the days of 3 hour snoozes to recover from 6 hour shifts at work are now over.
Izzie's been hearing stuff through the grape vine and it was all good and it was so nice to see and feel it first hand

We might even start getting some of the old staff coming back when word gets around
