Been indulging in a certain card addiction more than usual lately. The latest owl officially left its roost in Prague on Friday 27th August and finally landed in the Lair on Friday. But the serpent was not slinking about to snatch it.
Had been randomly dropping by the post office all week but nothing doing. It's less to do with being impatient to get the paws on that fat fluffy big bad Baba owl but more to do with wanting its arrival before last Friday in order to indulge in the usual rituals for playing with new toys

No snatching and tearing its white bubble wrapped feathers off and grasping the gorgeousness within. Proper procedures are called for which usually involve a picnic, a bottle, a rat and a visit to certain special places - serpent sacred sites so to say
So our restraint was to be rewarded on Wednesday with a visit to the grounds of the old astronomy tower enroute to Kings Park which was running a night stalk in search of little furry creatures from 6-8pm.
There will be another one at the end of September but this was just the excuse Izzie needed for the first deck.
But the weather had other plans. It was four seasons in one day but by 4pm when it was time to head up the hill, it started raining and raining and didn't stop.
So no gardens and no night stalking. Would instead search for a suitable cafe to peek at the precious pewter gilded deck

Not many good ones in the city - and certainly not many of the ye olde tea shoppe variety with wooden floors, rickety bockety chairs and tables and lots of nooks and crannies. Most cafes are very bright, yuppie and minimalist these days. But not the prices
In the end settled for His Majesty's Theatre cafe. It too had modern decor but it's in a gorgeous old building with high ornate ceilings and worth visiting just to go to the toilets which are shared with the theatre itself. There's a sort of antechamber with scarlet red walls and carpets and gilded mirrors hanging on the walls.
Even the signs outside were gorgeous - just pictures of a man and a woman in 1900's style dress looking remarkably like some of the characters in the cards

The coffees were actually bigger and cheaper than the franchise cafes on the main street. They were also better so this place will be added to the regular list for coffee crawling.
But the really strange thing was the stand with free postcards next to the magazine shelves
Izzie often visits the garden markets and meets the greenies who often campaign against genetically modified foods. Told her that some of the cafes now have free post cards produced by so pro GM organization but giving the impression that it is against. It's only when you get to the leading questions in its little questionnaire that you might twig what they are up to but not everyone would
She was most interested indeed and asked us to get her copies if we ever come across them again
So now realized exactly where we had found them. Thought it was a cafe but it was the theatre booking office. Was there last Friday getting a ticket for a new production of Kafka's "Trial" in October

There were also post cards promoting some vampire movie parody and some Russian film festival. This was most appropriate while looking through all the dark shiny sparkly cards full of very peculiar people with all sorts of strange faces and features. Quite a few of them looked rather genetically modified

So now the Izzie is stuck with the idea of a genetically modified tarot deck. Something to toss into the Nano bag of ideas.

The second deck got to see the sunshine today in the gardens of the old Gothic lunatic asylum. A gorgeous sunny day so no need for a change of plans. But before that went to an organ concert at one of the gorgeous old churches in the centre of Fremantle.
Was delighted to see Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on the menu but it turned out not to be Bach but some Max Reger from the 1700s or something. Not too bad actually but would have preferred the Dracula D minor.
Got to drifting down memory lane remembering how often there used to be organ concerts in the little town in Germany Izzie used to live in. Four churches in the town and each with a gorgeous old organ. Could have very easily fallen asleep or ended up in some sort of hypnotic trance. Resisted the temptation and remained in mundane muggle reality and thought that it really is time to dust off that garage band app on the Mac which has a fake but pretty impressive sounding cathedral organ.
They did say there would be some nibblies and light refreshments at the end of the concert. That was like saying that the Pope is a Catholic. No cups of tea and scones but plates and plates of sandwiches, canapes, bowls of dips and olives, cheese platters and calamari rings with lemon. Not only that but red and white wine too. And all part of the service

Silly buggers - they should have done the collection for donations after the nibblies rather than at the beginning of the concert.
Will certainly be giving more than 3 silver sickles next time.
They apparently do this four times a year. Next one same time and same place on Thursday 9th December.

It certainly set the spooky mood for the second Deck of Doom.
While the gothic gardens was a perfect place to unveil the preciousss, it was in broad daylight and bright sunshine. Did notice some tiny pink drops of blood under the arm of the lady in the Star card. Only later noticed there were some tiny red scratches in the sky too.
But that was only because that particular card has been tipped off as the one presenting the most problems. Peeking again in the evening in a dark corner of a dimly lit cafe, you can not even see it at all.
So no slashes, gashes or splotches like some people got on their cards and nothing that a bit of darkness cannot hide
Checked the seemingly perfect first one again for the usual suspects and could see nothing at all. But will wait for daylight to be absolutely sure

So it's been a gorgeous day with some gorgeous new toys. Only one left to check now. The monsters in the dark grimoire deck are probably already sulking
They will still be very special but they had their days of darkness last November. It's time to give some one else a chance
Or even cheat and use both and just pick the cards that suggest the most twisted tale

Tomorrow will be back to the scheduled program of politics staring the Queen of Swords, the Mad Monk, Hermit and a motley bunch of fools
